Chapter 16

“Okay, guys, so a few ground rules,” Keira started off. She was standing in front of us all, prepping us for the day. “No sneaking in booze. That means you, Ariel.” She threw a knowing look to my friend, who scowled in return. “No driving like a jackass.” She looked at the boys, who were punching each other back and forth. “And just don’t embarrass me, okay?” she said firmly.

She looked like a sexy commander in charge of a troupe of soldiers. Was it weird that I found this really hot?

“Okay, Mom. Can we get this show on the road?” Jennifer asked. She was sitting in the passenger seat of her and Sadie’s golf cart.

It had been a couple of weeks and we were all acclimated to the new relationship. It surprisingly wasn’t as awkward as you would imagine it to be. There were a few bumps in the road to get us here, but nothing major.

“Okay, fine,” Keira gave in and climbed into the passenger seat of our cart. “Oh, and no cheating!” she added before we all took off to the first hole.

We were in a much bigger group than the golf course would normally allow, but they were over seeding and closed to the general public. The general manager there had let Keira come and practice, as long as she followed the rules.

We went first, Keira trying to make an example of us. My example was not as impressive as hers. My first ball went way too far to the left and I had to get another ball and try again. My friends snickered, but she cooed me and gave me advice on how to hit it. This time I was on the green.

After our buddies all had their balls on the fairway—which took a while, by the way, we all separated to find our balls.

“This is so much fun, babe. Thank you,” I said to my girlfriend.

“Thank me for what?” she asked, confused.

“Thank you for just being you. For not caring that a girl who was previously in love with me and a girl that was previously in love with you, is here, dating each other,” I laughed.

It really was such a weird situation. You would think more drama would have occurred, but things were perfect. Almost scarily perfect. High school life was nothing like how it was portrayed in the movies.

After playing golf all day and none of us getting a credible score, other than Keira, of course, we were all beat. We all said our goodbyes in the parking lot and before I could get into Keira’s car, she stopped me.

“Where do you think you’re going?” she asked, not unlocking her car.

“Home?” I questioned.

“We aren’t going anywhere.” She smirked.

“Are you holding me captive, Mitchell?” I asked, smirking back at her.

“I sure am,” she cheerfully said, grabbing my hand and leading me towards the clubhouse.

“Really, what are we doing?” I questioned.

“You’ll see,” she answered, not willing to explain further.

I knew her well enough to know that she wasn’t going to tell me, so I just followed along.
